Yamana's generative exploration programme yielding results

Despite limited drilling activity owing to Covid-19-related restrictions, Canadian miner Yamana Gold says its generative exploration programme has made significant progress, strengthening the company’s conviction that it will meet its objective of discovering a standalone project with inferred mineral resources of at least 1.5-million ounces of gold-equivalent in three years.

The generative portfolio comprises 11 projects, with two new so-called tier-three projects – Cambista and Cambiazo – added. Both these projects, located in Chile, along with several others in the generative portfolio, including Jacobina Norte in Brazil, are located in close proximity to producing Yamana mines.

The tier-one projects, defined as those with well-defined gold mineral resources and opportunities to grow a potentially economic threshold in the next three years, include Lavra Velha, in Brazil, and Monument Bay, in Canada.

The tier-two projects, which have achieved significant drill intercepts and whose geology along with other factors support rapid mineral resource growth, are Jacobina Norte, Borborema and Ivolandia, in Brazil, as well as Domain, in Canada.

The tier-three projects, which are projects with known mineralisation defined with rock and soil geochemistry that warrant future drill testing, include Norte Madsen, in Canada, and Colider and Mara Rosa, both in Brazil, as well as the two new Chile projects.

The generative exploration programme is a key component of Yamana’s overall growth strategy, designed to advance the company’s most prospective properties and lay the foundation for the next generation of Yamana mines.

The aim is to find projects that could support the development of a new cash flow generating mine with production of 150 000 oz/y for at least eight years.
