JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Chinese-owned Wesizwe Platinum has appointed Paul Smith as its new COO from January 1.

The company reported on Monday that the appointment was part of its strategic plan to move itself and its flagship Bakubung platinum mine, in the North West, to the next phase of development.

Smith has, until recently, been consulting to various international mining companies in the fields of new business development, project development and finance. He was also a new business director for ASX-, LSE- and JSE-listed Aquarius Platinum, as well as a director of the miner’s South African and Zimbabwean subsidiaries.
