JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Aim-listed Vast Resources has seen significant production improvements at its Manaila polymetallic mine, in Romania, owing to tests undertaken by mining industry consultants SGS, which were managed by independent processing specialists Minxcon.

Commissioning has begun on a second float line to separate the zinc to produce a saleable zinc concentrate, with first sales expected to occur in September.

Plant improvements for the copper concentrate have resulted in copper grades increasing to around 19% and zinc grades decreasing to around 4%, producing a quality copper concentrate.

“We have seen significant improvements in grades and recoveries at the Iacobeni processing facility at our Manaila polymetallic mine, and the replication of the SGS testwork is very encouraging and bodes well for future production,” says CEO Roy Pitchford.

Minxcon in May began work to reconfigure the float lines with the goal of replicating the SGS recovery and grade results achieved at the laboratory scale.

The Iacobeni plant mass pull has increased from 1.5% in July to around 2.5% in August.
