PERTH (miningweekly.com) – The Western Australian Chamber of Minerals and Energy (CME) has appointed Erin van Noort as CEO of the South West portfolio.
Van Noort would be replacing Anthony Miller, who has been overseeing both the South West and North West portfolios over an extended period. Miller would remain as CEO of the North West portfolio.
Van Noort has previously occupied positions at BHP Billiton, Cristal Global and Iluka Resources.
“Her solid understanding of the issues and opportunities for South West operations will be an asset to CME and our members,” said CME CEO Reg Howard-Smith.
The South West region is home to more than 20 mining operations in the region. Commodities produced in the region include: alumina, coal for power generation, gold, heavy mineral sands, tin, tantalite and spodumene. As home to the state's premier industrial area, the South West is also a key resource processing area.
Within the region, the CME is focused on creating an industry-government infrastructure plan for state and regional development, coordination between the responsibilities of government, industry and community in the provisions of social and physical infrastructure, and community engagement.
