US February silver output continues slide

TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – US silver output has declined by a further 5% during February, after recording an 11% quarter-on-quarter drop in January.

According to the US Geological Survey’s latest mineral industry survey, US mines produced 84 400 kg of silver in February, compared with 89 300 kg in January, which was a slight decrease compared with that of February 2014. Silver output equalled 88 700 kg in February 2014, reflecting a 9% decrease on January 2014, when the US produced 97 800 kg of silver.

Based on unrounded data, the average daily silver output in February was 3 010 kg compared with 2 880 kg in January and 3 190 kg for full-year 2014.

The average daily silver price for the month was $16.78/oz, which was 3% less than that of January and 19% less than that of February 2014.
