JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) - Gold and uranium producer Simmers & Jack Mines (Simmers) said on Wednesday morning, that the fall-of-ground incident that killed one employee on Tuesday at the Buffelsfontein mine in North West province, had claimed the lives of two more workers that were trapped underground.

Buffelsfontein mine overseer Johannes Naude and shift bosses Adriaan Zietsman and Steven Grobbelaar were engaged in a routine inspection at the time of the incident.

The mine's number-five shaft remained closed pending an investigation into the incident.

Simmers CEO Nico Schoeman extended the company's condolences.

More than 30 workers have died in South Africa's mines this year.
