Global mining equipment and services provider Sandvik Mining earlier this month expanded its CH800 series of mining cone crushers, by launching two “technologically advanced” models that improve productivity and profitability in the midrange segment.

The Sandvik CH860 for high-capacity second-ary crushing and the Sandvik CH865 for high-reduction tertiary and pebble applications feature higher crushing forces relative to mantle diameter and a 500 kW motor.

The new crushers combine a range of advanced automation features for a more secure and productive process.

“We scaled down our larger Sandvik CH890 and Sandvik CH895 mining cone crushers to create two midrange models that are more productive, robust and reliable, and feature enhanced environmental, health and safety characteristics,” says Sandvik Mining cone crushers product line manager Andreas Christoffersson.

He states that, depending on the application, the Sandvik CH860 and the Sandvik CH865 can “outperform” competing equipment in the midrange [cone crushing] segment of the global market by as much as 30%, while also delivering a twofold increase in performance range.

Christoffersson notes the intelligent systems in the Sandvik CH860 and the Sandvik CH865 enable real-time operational improvements, while its smart, compact design solutions reduce dynamic loads as well as engineering and instal-lation work.

“The crushers feature fewer moving parts than competing models,” he points out, adding that the nonwelded, bolted liners on the top and bottom shell of the machines provide for safe and easy maintenance.

The new crushers also feature the company’s automatic setting regulation control system (ASRi) and hydroset ventilation and slugger systems to ensure continual automatic operation and optimal performance.

Christoffersson explains that the ASRi constantly monitors pressure, power draw and main shaft position as well as automatically adjusts the setting during full load.

The hydroset main shaft support system provides protection from overloads by permitting tramp iron and other uncrushables to pass through the crusher before automatically returning to the original setting.

The system automatically compensates for crushing chamber wear to provide consistent product size.

“The hydroset enables us to incorporate our programmable logic controller, or PLC-controlled electric dump valve for tramp iron protection, which significantly reduces pressure peaks and mechanical stress on the crusher, thereby significantly improving reliability,” Christoffersson says.

He points out that the crushers achieved “excellent results” over the course of about a year of “rigorous” testing at an iron-ore mine in China.

Christoffersson says, in these challenging economic times, mines are often looking for increased productivity without necessarily expanding their plant.

“The Sandvik CH860 and the Sandvik CH865 are easy to install as replacements to achieve this. During the testing period, we replaced a similar-sized crusher on the same foundation, which resulted in a significant increase in the final product volume and a very extended crushing chamber liner life. The machine’s electric dump valve also repeatedly proved its tramp iron protection value by reducing costly unplanned breakdowns,” he adds.
