Johannesburg company Trollope Mining Services provides surface mining expertise and services to the mining industry. These include opencast mining, rehabilitation, bulk earthworks, plant hire and road construction.

The company has substantial operations on different mines in the coal, andalusite, platinum, fluorspar and gold industries.

It has been operating since 1975 and boasts a fleet of equipment well in excess of 250 machines, and staff of over 650 employees.

It has carried out opencast mining contracts for a broad spectrum of clients, including Xstrata Coal, the Rhino andalusite mine, Northam Platinum, Messina Platinum, the Douglas colliery, the Sumo colliery and the Grootegeluk coal mine.

Rehabilitation contracts have been con- ducted for Rietspruit Mine Services, the Koffiefontein mine and the Modderfontein and Grootvlei mines

On the plant and equipment side, well-equipped workshops handle all major repairs and maintenance. Routine maintenance and minor repairs are carried out on site. Workshops and mobile facilities are provided for these purposes.

The company has been dealing with Barlows Equipment since 1975, Bell Equipment since 1986 and Komatsu South Africa since 1996 and in 2005, Volvo.

Its full range of mining and construction equipment include plant hire excavators, bulldozers, articulated dump trucks, rigid dump trucks, front-end loaders, tractor loader backhoes, and graders.

The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Mvelaphanda group.
