The KZN series of US-based pumps manufacturer BJM Pumps’ heavy-duty submersible slurry pumps is designed to pump slurries to within a few inches of the bottom of pits, sumps or other areas that require pumping, owing to the pump’s top discharge capability.

Fluid flowing through the pump, rather than through a side discharge, cools the pump, enabling low pumping levels. On the contrary, side-discharge pumps are only capable of pumping until a pump is no longer submerged, at which point it becomes susceptible to overheating.

BJM’s KZN series of heavy-duty slurry pumps is capable of tackling tough conditions, such as those at mines, which include pumping dense materials such as heavy slurries containing lime, mill scale, coal, ash, silt, sand, gravel and even food waste.

The KZN series also features an agitator, impeller and wear plate made of 28% abrasive- resistant chrome iron, enabling the pump to be used for extended time periods under challenging situations.

The agitator mixes heavy solids into suspension, pumping the material away with the liquid to prevent clogging and easing maintenance procedures.

A replaceable wear plate is constructed with a hardened surface on the suction side to prevent erosion, which would typically cause a loss of pump performance.

Further, the semiopen impeller can handle abrasive solid concentrations as high as 70%.

The KZN series features a top discharge outlet and slim design, which enables the pumps to fit into tight and thin spaces, other- wise obstructed by side-mounted pipes.

Protection
Every KZN slurry pump model is protected by class-H motor insulation, while built-in amperage and temperature-overload protection devices add to increased pump dependability.

Double silicon carbide mechanical seals in a separate oil-filled seal chamber and a heavy-duty lip seal ensure that vital components are protected from the elements. The stainless steel shaft and shaft sleeve also protect against shaft wear from abrasive materials and corrosion.

The pump’s volutes, cast from hardened ductile iron of 300 Brinell hardness, are twice as abrasive resistant as standard ductile iron, and cast in extra-thick walls where the pumped slurry enters the discharge.
