PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed Metals X has reported a solid quarter at its gold operations, but said on Wednesday that  its tin operations had underperformed, owing to lower head grades.

During the three months to March, Metals X produced 48 349 oz of gold, which was slightly below the 51 287 oz produced in the previous quarter.

Gold production at the Higginsville mine, in Western Australia, improved during the quarter under review, with the mine producing 45 141 oz of gold, compared with the 42 443 oz delivered in the three months to December. The increased production resulted from improved mining grades.

At the South Kalgoorlie operation, also in Western Australia, Metals X produced 3 208 oz of gold, compared with the 8 844 oz produced in the previous quarter.

The South Kalgoorlie operation operated predominantly as a toll processing plant during the quarter under review, and this arrangement was expected to continue until the end of May. After this time, the plant would shift to owned stocks of low-grade ore, while longer-term feed sources were established.

Meanwhile, Metals X reported that tin production for the three months to March declined to 1 411 t, compared with the 1 534 t produced in the previous quarter.

While mine productivity at the Renison operation, in Tasmania, improved during the quarter, the overall output was impacted by lower head grades.
