There was three-part harmony as Pan African, Wits Gold and Harmony Gold sang from the same hymn sheet to announce the R1.7-billion Evander acquisition transaction, which had all the consonance of a well-rehearsed singsong. The duet of buyers, Pan African’s Jan Nelson and Wits Gold’s Philip Kotze, and the seller, Harmony’s Graham Briggs, have all played on the Evander gold mine instrument at some time or other during their crossing careers, which bodes well that the deal will go through tunefully on the April 2 closing date.
