JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Dual-listed Tawana Resources has submitted a scoping report and terms of reference report for an environmental- and social-impact assessment (ESIA) for its Mofe Creek project to the Liberia Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for review.

Once the terms of reference report was approved by the EPA, Tawana could “fully progress” the Mofe Creek project’s ESIA studies.

The submission of these reports represented a key step forward in the ESIA process and formed part of Tawana's commitment to obtaining an environmental permit and mining licence for Mofe Creek.

“These reports provide the basis for a detailed analysis of the social, environmental and technical aspects of the project and the communities in which the project will operate.

“Early consideration of project-specific environmental and social impacts along with appropriate community engagement can significantly influence the long-term success of a project. Through its comprehensive groundwork, Tawana seeks to maximise the economic, social and environmental benefits of the Mofe Creek iron-ore project for all its shareholders and Liberian stakeholders,” commented executive chairperson and CEO Wayne Richards

Consultants Earth Systems and Earth Environmental Consultancy had prepared the reports, in line with relevant Liberian regulations.
