PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Remedial work at the Talang Santos gold mine, in Indonesia, has resulted in gold production increasing by 55% during the December quarter.

Owner Kingsrose Mining said on Monday that the Talang Santo mine delivered 6 213 oz of gold during the three months to December, compared with the 4 010 oz delivered in the previous quarter.

The higher production at Talang Santos, which saw mined tonnage increase by 62% to 21 341 t, was largely owing to the successful measures implemented to manage water inflows at the mine.

“Talang Santo is an outstanding mine with exceptionally high grades and low costs. Unfortunately, the mine’s performance has been hampered in recent times by the challenges associated with water inflows in some parts of the mine,” said chairperson John Morris.

“These latest results are pleasing and we are confident that the project will continue to see ongoing progress on both the production and cost fronts, generating increasing cash flow for the company.”

Meanwhile, Morris reported that Kingsrose was working to build on the exploration strategy implemented over the past 12 months, which had yielded early-stage success on numerous prospects across the wider project area.

A review of geophysical data was currently under way, which would assist with reining in targets for a drill programme scheduled for later this year.
