JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Platinum-group metals producer Sylvania Platinum reported on Monday that its five tailings retreatment operations produced a record 13 089 oz in the quarter to September 30, an increase of 12% on the previous quarter.
The company said output from the combined dump operations and Chromite Tailings Retreatment Project continued to expand steadily and that it had, thus, maintained its production guidance of 60 000 oz for its financial year to June 30, 2012.
The ASX- and Aim-listed company’s Mooinooi flotation plant expansion was also continuing ahead of schedule and the project remained on track for commissioning in November 2011.
Design work for the Tweefontein plant had been completed and planning discussions were under way to finalise the integration of the new tailings plant with the Tweefontein mine.
“To ensure a steady transition, the planning now indicates the project will be commissioned towards the end of the financial year 2012,” the company said in a statement.
