Wescoal’s Acting CEO Waheed Sulaiman stepped up from his role as Executive Director, Commercial & Strategy for Wescoal Holdings Limited to take the helm of the group when incumbent Andre Boje resigned earlier this year.  At the time he had been responsible for the Group’s development and implementation of the long-term strategies while heading up the risk, compliance and business development portfolios of mining and trading.

Prior to his appointment, Sulaiman worked in various roles at BHP Billiton’s South African operations where he oversaw strategy and business development as well as commercial and corporate finance activities and. played an active role in developing a BEE strategic framework and objectives for BHP Billiton’s South African business units.  Sulaiman sees his immediate thrust as stabilising the group as it moves to implement its long-standing strategies and policies.   “We place high value on the Department of Trade and Industry Codes of Good Practice and the Mining Charter.

“I continue to be  excited about the prospects of adding value to Wescoal’s growth path and welcome the challenge of heading up an experienced team of professionals,’ he says. Waheed Sulaiman has a BSc Chemical Engineering (University of Cape Town) (1999) and a BCom (economics and business management majors) (University of South Africa) (2005).
