St Andrew Goldfields welcomes new CEO
TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – Canadian gold miner St Andrew Goldfields (SAS) this week welcomed to its board new president and CEO Duncan Middlemiss, who is replacing outgoing CEO Jacques Perron, when he takes up his new CEO position at base metals miner Thomspon Creek Metals on October 15.
SAS on Monday said that while external and internal candidates were considered by the board, the performance of Middlemiss as COO and VP of operations, and his intimate knowledge of the operations and activities of SAS in north-eastern Ontario, had made his appointment logical and appropriate in maintaining the company’s objective of consistent reliable gold production.
Middlemiss graduated from Queen's University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering and then spent six years with Inco, now incorporated under Vale Canada, at the Sudbury operation.
This was followed by seven years with Barrick Gold at the Holt-McDermott mine, now owned and operated by SAS, and then six years with Kirkland Lake Gold, at the Macassa mine, all of which had contributed to his extensive background and knowledge of working with the various stakeholders in mining operations in north-eastern Ontario.
Owing to Perron and Middlemiss having worked closely together since 2008, in bringing SAS to its current steady operating performance, the board expected a smooth transition for this logical evolution at the senior management level.
