TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – Coal-miner SouthGobi Energy Resources has appointed industry veteran Gavin May as COO, the firm announced on Tuesday.
May will operate out of Hong Kong, and will manage the company's coal mining and exploration operations in Mongolia and Indonesia.
He was CEO of ASX-listed Gloucester Coal for six years, until mid-2007, and his most recent position was as a director of Noble Resources Australia, SouthGobi said.
SouthGobi's flagship mine is the Ovoot Tolgoi coal operation, in Mongolia.
The firm is controlled by Ivanhoe Mines.
