JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Ricus Grimbeek has resigned as chief technology officer of diversified miner South32, to pursue other interests.

“Ricus made a significant contribution to South32 in its formative years as a key member of the executive committee. He played a pivotal role in establishing and delivering value from the group’s Regional operating model, while embedding a culture of care,” South32 said in a statement on Thursday.

He previously served as South32’s COO for the Australia region.

Most recently, he and his team finalised the roadmap for the group’s approach to technology.

“I have known Ricus for more than ten years, working with him in Canada and Australia, and I am sad to see him leave. His innovative approach has helped to shape our culture and strategy and he has been instrumental in our early success.

“He delivered substantial cost savings in the Australia region and has created the platform from which we will build our technology strategy,” said CEO Graham Kerr.
