Software developer Afrigle IT Innovations has
developed a comprehensive software package based on reliability-centred maintenance principles to assist mine man-
agers with asset and maintenance administration.

The technology allows for stricter control mechanisms to be exercised in terms of employees and equipment performance.

Afrigle IT Solutions software developer Barend de Klerk says that the Afrigle automated
maintenance management system conventional and plant maintenance module makes it easy to stay on top of maintenance
issues for every part of a plant. This plant maintenance software tracks everything from the smallest pieces of equipment to winders, compressors, locomotives and similar specialised
machinery and tools.

The software includes a
variety of features, including an employee database, equipment tracking, equipment performance and operating cost, and a scheduled task system.

The software is based on modular application, which can be used singularly or as a combined package. The software enables management to access real-time information relating to various aspects of its operation at any time without assistance. The
information is updated as soon as there is nonconformance by means of an exception report, which reports on prescribed
parameters set up according to the end-user’s requirements.

De Klerk adds that Afrigle is currently working on extending the access to a Web-based portal, which will allow management to access the operation’s vital statistics from any computer or cellphone, anywhere in the world.

De Klerk believes that the software is invaluable to effectively manage maintenance and ensure the maximum uptime of the mine’s operating fleet.

Further, the software also allows for the full integration of personal digital assistants (PDAs) to ease the flow of information. Technicians are able to go about their legal inspections or maintenance routines with a PDA in hand and, on arrival at the office computer, dock the PDA and it will automatically update information logs on the system.

If the mine has decided to fully embrace wireless applications, the process can be accom-
plished from anywhere on the mine’s property.
The software is also able to
interface with other existing software, allowing for a complete
integration with existing systems.
