Sierra Rutile secures 70 000 t supply agreement

JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Aim-listed mineral sands producer Sierra Rutile on Monday said it had secured a 70 000 t rutile supply agreement with an undisclosed major pigment producer.

The Sierra Leone-based company would supply seven 10 000 t shipments – one each quarter – of rutile, until December 2014, when the contract expires.

Sierra Rutile produced 94 493 t of rutile last year, up from the 67 916 t produced in 2011. During the first quarter of 2013, rutile output increased by 21% to 25 087 t.
