PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Junior coal miner Cockatoo Coal has awarded a A$36.7-million contract to project house Sedgman for the expansion of its Baralaba coal mine, in Queensland.

Cockatoo recently completed the first phase of the Baralaba expansion project, which saw coal production increase to one-million tonnes a year at its Baralaba North operation, and is now pushing to increase production to 3.5-million tonnes a year.

Sedgman’s scope of work would include the detail design, supply, fabrication, construction and commissioning of the train load-out and stockyard facility. The project would be executed in two portions: a A$19.4-million design and procurement component and a A$17.3-million construction component.

Sedgman said on Wednesday that it was currently finalising design and procurement under the first portion, and final approval of the construction component was expected in November, with the upgraded facilities scheduled for completion in August next year.
