JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Gold major Gold Fields has permanently appointed acting group CFO Paul Schmidt, as of January 1.
Schmidt, who is a chartered accountant with eighteen years experience, had been acting CFO since May last year, taking over the position from the current CEO Nick Holland.
Holland had succeeded Ian Cockerill as CEO, when Cockerill resigned to join Anglo Coal.
"Over the past eight months Paul has acted with distinction in the role of CFO. His twelve years of experience in senior operational and executive positions, and his deep knowledge of the group, equips him well for his new role," Holland said in a statement on Wednesday.
Holland added that the group had made the appointment following an extensive local and international search for a new CFO.
