Heavy-duty Slurry pump manufacturer Hazleton Pumps® has won the Export Achievement Category at the bi-annual Southern Africa Stainless Steel Development Association (Sassda) Columbus Stainless Awards for 2018.

Through the design and development of new products, HAZLETON PUMPS® is set to grow as a leader in the field of slurry pumps manufactured from duplex stainless-steel castings.

Customised engineering and advanced technology is used by Hazleton Pumps® in the design, development and manufacture of the HIPPO submersible pump range to accommodate a variety of applications and specific duties. Owing to the company’s receiving various awards and achievements, these innovations have been recognised.

The successful use of Duplex stainless-steel in the  HIPPO slurry pump and pumping systems ranges inspired Hazleton Pumps® to enter in various categories of the SASSDA Awards 2018 and won the Export Achievement Category.

Judges’ Comments: For achieving consistent export growth from 3.6% in 2013/2014 to 27% in 2015/2016 and to 65% in 2017/2018, Hazleton Pumps International is well-known in the rest of the world and can deliver the products and services required.

With the economic slump in the South African market, especially the stagnation in the Southern African mining sector, Hazleton Pumps International made the strategic decision to concentrate on exports with excellent results.

In line with this focus, every avenue has been explored to gain insight into export markets and the export assistance offered by the dti under the EIMA Programme has proved to be a valuable tool. Over the past 5 years several National Pavilions and Outward-Bound Trade Missions have been attended which has resulted in the above-mentioned incredible results.

Some of the key reasons for this success include the fact that the harsh mining conditions in Southern Africa required flameproof, slurry submersible pumps to pump high volumes of acidic liquid containing solids at high heads and which have led to the design and development of the HIPPO High-Head; High-Volume; Medium/High Voltage Flameproof Submersible Slurry Pumps® being a world’s first

Products that have been successfully implemented in the South African mining industry are therefore usually accepted internationally and the cost of specialised products manufactured in South Africa is also economically competitive internationally.
