Rukwa coal-to-power project, Tanzania.

Edenville Energy.

Project Description
A scoping study completed on the Rukwa coal project has indicated an economically sound project with a relatively low capital expenditure (capex) cost and a 50-year life-of-mine. A small-scale mine and power plant (coal-to-power) scenario to provide electricity for local markets has been identified as having the best balance for shareholder return, deliverability and achievable capital requirements.

Latest Developments
China-headquartered Shandong Electric Power Construction No 2 Company (Sepco2) has gained greater insight into the workings of Edenville’s coal-to-power project following the conclusion of the first of a series of in-country meetings.

Edenville has reported that, following meetings in China earlier this year, the company is a step closer to securing a project partner for the project, as it showcased the logistics and costs associated with a Tanzanian project to visiting senior representatives of Sepco2 through “productive” meetings in Dar es Salaam last week.

In addition, Edenville has gained insight into the operations of Sepco2, with Edenville CEO Rufus Short noting that the company is “very encouraged” by the Chinese firm’s knowledge and experience in developing coal-fired power plants.

“Both parties will continue discussions in the coming weeks under a defined framework for advancement of the Rukwa coal project in the context of Tanzania's requirement for coal-based power generation,” he has noted.

Meanwhile, Edenville has submitted all the requirements of the mining licence application for its Rukwa coal project to the Tanzania Ministry of Energy and Minerals.
