JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – JSE-listed platinum producer Impala Platinum (Implats) on Friday reported that Dr Fred Roux has resigned as an independent nonexecutive director, with immediate effect.
The resignation followed discussions in the aftermath of Roux`s replacement as chairperson. Implats said in a statement that boh the company and Roux regretted the circumstances and publicity surrounding that event, and have agreed to go their separate ways, in good faith, with mutual respect and with no further comment.
The Implats board thanked Roux for the dedication and commitment he displayed during his five years as chairperson. The company added that Roux would be paid a gratuity of R1,6-million for past service which payment does not impose any restraint of trade on him whatsoever.
At the end of December, Implats offered the position of chairperson of the board to incumbent nonexecutive director Dr Khotso Mokhele.
Roux was dismissed as chairperson of Implats on October 22, and was, on the same day, stripped of his chairpersonship at beleaguered fluorspar miner Sallies.
