Rio Tinto Alcan employee killed
TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – Aluminium specialist Rio Tinto Alcan on Tuesday said one of its employees passed away following an accident at its Alma facility, in Lac-Saint Jean, Quebec.
Rio Tinto Alcan said it was conducting investigations in cooperation with the Quec authorities to determine the cause of the accident.
The company had suspended activity at the facility's anode plant until further notice.
"This is very sad news for Rio Tinto Alcan as there is nothing more important to us than the security, the safety and well-being of our employees. Our deepest sympathies and thoughts are with the employee's family and co-workers," Rio Tinto Alcan COO for primary metal, North America Etienne Jacques said in a statement.
The employee's family had been notified, and Rio Tinto Alcan was providing its full support during this time.
