Resolute discovers more gold at Syama
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Gold miner Resolute Mining has reported new high-grade gold intercepts from an ongoing deep extension drilling programme at its Syama mine, in Mali.
The company on Tuesday told shareholders that a completely new zone of mineralisation had been identified south of the Syama deposit and the new zone appeared to be separate from the main Syama orebody.
The deep drilling programme was started in late 2015 with the ambition of expanding the Syama underground resource, and was primarily expected to be at depth, with the majority of drilling targeting mineralisation below the existing underground reserve.
CEO and MD John Welborn said that two of the intersections were particularly significant, as they intersected gold mineralisation at a relatively shallow depth in an area where there has been no previous drilling.
“The results indicate a potential new mineralisation lens which is separate from the main mineralised zone at Syama. We see enormous potential along strike to the south and down dip, and that potential is being confirmed by these and other drill results returned this year. These results completely open up the southern area at Syama for potential major extensions to resources.”
Resolute has started the development of the decline for the underground mine at Syama, which is expected to have a mine-life of more than 12 years. Syama is expected to produce 250 000 oz/y.
