PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Gold developer Red Mountain Mining has received local government endorsement for its Batangas project, in the Philippines.

The junior told shareholders on Wednesday that all the local government councils directly affected by the project had endorsed it. Red Mountain was now continuing its consultation with the next tiers of government, including the Batangas provincial council, while the central government was processing the final technical review and mine permitting prior to final approval.

“Local government endorsement of the Batangas gold project development and production plan is a critical step in the final mine permitting process,” said Red Mountain MD Jon Dugdale.

“The endorsement of all ten local Barungay councils and now the Lobo municipal council, is a firm vote of confidence that indicates how strongly the local community supports this project.”

The A$22.7-million project is expected to deliver some 100 000 oz/y gold and 250 000 oz/y silver, by processing about 10.3-million tonnes of ore a year. The project was expected to have a mine life of just over five years.

A definitive feasibility study on the project was advancing, along with the environmental-impact statement and the grant of the environmental compliance certificate.

The study and all permitting inputs would likely be completed by the third quarter of this year.
