PERTH (miningweekly.com) – A cease and desist order on ASX-listed junior Red 5’s Siana gold project, in the Philippines, would be lifted once the company completed some remedial work.

Red 5 announced on Wednesday that it had received formal notification from the Department of Environment and Natural Resource of the Philippines that the cease and desist order placed over the Siana processing operation would be lifted once Red 5 completed certain measures.

This included the construction of a new high density polyethylene-lined tailings storage facility, the installation of a thickener and cement addition facility to allow for the production of dry tailings, and modifications to the existing tailings storage facilities to accommodate the new thickened cement tailings.

The cease and desist order was received in June last year after milling operations were suspended in April, when a possible tailings spill was flagged. The order called on Red 5 to cease ore processing at the site.

The miner said on Wednesday that the work required to lift the cease and desist order was consistent with a report generated by engineering consultants.

Red 5 welcomed the development, and said that the remedial action would take between six and eight months to complete, before commercial milling activities could be restarted.

Subject to the formal lifting of the order, gold production would only start in the first quarter of 2015.
