Local hydraulic and pneumatic components distributor Hydramatics Control Equipment extended its air-treatment range last month by adding the Camozzi MD series of compressed air filters developed and manufactured in Italy to its product offering.

Hydramatics sales manager Vaughan Chapman says that the series “is competitively priced for smaller thread sizes that require greater interchangeability, while maintaining a high flow rate at smaller diameters”.

The system can be adapted for specific applications, particularly applications and operations that require a flow rate of about 1 500 Nℓ/min, Chapman notes, adding that the series includes earthmoving machine tools such as pneumatic torque, impact and ratchet wrenches.

The series is versatile and its compatibility with the MX and MC ranges ensures that the variety in terms of filter dimensions, fittings, flow rates and materials allow for customised assembly according to client specifications.

The series comes standard with cartridge tube connections of between 6 mm and 10 mm and it contains absorbent, coalescing and carbon filters that are International Organisation for Standardisation compliant. The MD thread sizes range between 1/8" BSP and 3/8" BSP.

The series has a maximum inlet pressure of 16 bar and operates ideally within a temperature range of between –5 °C and 50 °C.

Chapman explains that the filter bowl is made of a high- technology polymer material, which ensures that it is corrosion resistant and lightweight, without compromising on strength.

“It has a semiautomatic drain, [which ensures that], when system pressure drops below 0.2 bar, the bowl automatically drains,” he says, though he notes that a manual drain is available, should the bowl become full. Further, bowl guards come standard on all the products and include a viewing window.

In addition to the series’ versatility and modular design, its greatest attributes are compactness, durability and an excellent flow rate performance, Chapman says.

The Benefit of Air Filtration
Filters are used to eliminate contaminants from compressed air after compression has taken place. Typically, the main contaminants are water vapour, oil (as vapour and as liquid), rust and dirt, aerosols and microorganisms.

Hydramatics asserts that air filtration enables the system to perform efficiently and that using an effective system will assist in limiting efficiency losses, improve maintenance and reduce premature failure in pneumatic equipment and components.

About Hydramatics
Formerly known as Hydraulics & Pneumatics, the company has been serving the fluid power industry since 1965. Led by Martyn Jones, Hydramatics currently supplies a complete pneumatic and instrumentation range of products locally and abroad.

The Johannesburg-based company stocks and distributes more than 10 000 pneumatic and hydraulic components sourced from leading international manufacturers.

Hydramatics supplies valves and fittings of international brands such as Camozzi, Hy-Lok, Aignep Ball Valves, RGS Electro-Pneumatic EX/IS Valves, Wade Imperial Brass Fittings and Farbo Rotary Unions.

It is the sole Southern Africa distributor for Camozzi and Hy-Lok.
