JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Aim- and TSX-listed Platmin has resumed mining operations at its Pilanesberg project, in South Africa, following a safety-related suspension late last month.
The mining operations were suspended to enable a detailed review of all operating practices at the mine by the management team, in close cooperation with the safety inspectorate of the Department of Minerals and Energy.
The review was undertaken after a worker employed by mining contractor MCC Contracts was killed in a vehicle-related accident.
The Pilanesberg mine is expected to reach a steady state production rate of 250 000 oz/y of platinum group metals and gold by the third quarter of this year.
