PLATINUM’S ROYAL RECEPTION

The Royal Mint will in a few weeks issue 1 oz ‘Queen’s Beasts Lion of England’ platinum coinage, which has rekindled hopes that the South African Mint will wipe the dust off its plans to issue a Mandela coin in platinum. Every effort needs to be made to improve the demand for platinum, and coinage is seen as one route, and the instatement of platinum as a reserve currency as another. Meanwhile, it will be Queen Elizabeth’s image that appears on platinum coins and the late, great Nelson Mandela will have to wait this out, which is most unfortunate in a country that hosts the overwhelming bulk of the planet’s platinum treasure.
