PLATINUM’S PIED PIPER:

South Africa’s platinum belt is unwilling to put its troubles behind it. The R12 500 entry-level wage demand of the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU) continues to be piped into the expectant air. The ominous situation prompted the United Association of South Africa (UASA) to put out a media release that it “feared the worst”. UASA sees South Africa’s mining sector in a “no-win situation” as a result of AMCU’s “crippling” pay demand.
