Platinum ETF listed on BSE
JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Barclays Africa’s platinum-backed exchange-traded fund (ETF), NewPlat, was listed on the Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE) on Wednesday, giving investors in that country direct exposure to platinum in pula.
The ETF, which was listed on the JSE in April 2013, was, in February this year, also listed on the Stock Exchange of Mauritius (SEM).
“Along with NewGold, the listing of NewPlat on the BSE will help expand the Botswana investment market by widening the choice of asset classes available to local investors, increase the liquidity of the BSE and deepen financial markets in Botswana,” said Barclays Africa Corporate and Investment Banking exchange traded products head Vladimir Nedeljkovic.
Barclays Africa’s NewGold ETF enabled investors to directly invest in gold bullion and was listed on the JSE, the BSE, the SEM, the Nigerian Stock Exchange and the Ghana Stock Exchange.
NewPlat, which had about R18.2-billion of assets under management, would start trading on the BSE on August 29.
