Pipe-joining system to be showcased at Electra Mining Botswana
QUICKVIC Victaulic’s QuickVic Installation-Ready flexible and rigid couplings install up to ten times faster than other joining methods
Mechanical pipe joining systems provider Victaulic will showcase its latest flame-free pipe-joining technology, developed specifically for the mining market, at this year’s Electra Mining Botswana exhibition, which takes place at the Gaborone Fair Grounds, from September 1 to 3.
Victaulic’s QuickVic installation-ready flexible and rigid couplings, used to join pipes, install up to ten times faster than other joining methods and are delivered to the job site ready to install, without the requirement to first disassemble and then reassemble the coupling to complete the joint.
The coupling can simply be pushed onto the pipe ends as a single unit and then tightened with an impact wrench or a standard hand tool, significantly improving the installation speed and providing a more efficient pipe joining method.
As a cold-formed joint, mechanical pipe joints eliminate the need for hot works and open flames on site, increasing jobsite safety. The QuickVic installation-ready coupling has no loose parts to drop or lose, thereby significantly reducing materials handling and, in turn, reducing risk during installation.
“Installation-ready couplings are designed for rapid installation and promise even greater efficiencies. Victaulic is focused on providing innovative solutions for the mining industry and owners, contractors and engineers will benefit not only from time savings, but also from cost savings, safety improvements and greater ease of use,” says Victaulic South Africa regional manager Barry van Jaarsveld.
Reliable and Fast
Victaulic will also be displaying a range of other innovative installation-ready solutions alongside its QuickVic coupling at Electra Mining Botswana, such as the SC77-style flexible coupling for shouldered steel pipe, which is ideal for abrasive services where maintaining full pipe-wall thickness is important.
Style SC77 comes preassembled to permit fast installation that does not require hot works or an open flame. Available with a galvanised housing and Grade T nitrile gasket, the coupling is ideal for petroleum, oil and air services, and any other application where corrosion is a concern.
“Installation-ready technology is the fastest and safest pipe-joining method currently available. It addresses the industry’s need to compress project schedules and remain competitive,” Van Jaarsveld points out.
Tested Technology
Victaulic installation-ready couplings have been installed in numerous locations around the world, including coal miner Xstrata’s Boschmans colliery, in Mpumalanga, and platinum major Impala Platinum’s 16 Shaft, in Rustenburg.
With fewer steps required to complete an installation, installation-ready couplings result in consistently faster pipe joints and reduced piping installation time, allowing crew sizes to be improved while meeting or beating project schedules. Further, a significant amount of time is saved during initial installation and system retrofits, as well as from reduced downtime during system maintenance.
Visitors to the Victaulic stand at Electra Mining Botswana will discover a full range of time- and labour-saving Victaulic products, including a sneak peak at the company’s new high-density polyethylene joining solutions from Victaulic.
“We are very excited to be at Electra Mining Botswana and this year’s show will see new products designed to save the industry both money and time. Victaulic invests heavily in research and development, and the results are having a major impact on the market,” concludes Van Jaarsveld.
