JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Uranium producer Paladin reported on Monday that a second contract worker, injured at its Kayelekera project in Malawi last month, had died.
The worker had died in a hospital in Johannesburg on Friday, the company stated. On March 20, Paladin reported the death of the first contract worker.
The three subcontractors were injured in a flash fire at the Kayelekera construction site on March 16, when solvent cleaning fluid used in a steel tank was ignited by an external source.
Paladin said that a third man remained in a stable, but serious condition in the Milpark hospital’s special burns unit.
An inquiry into the circumstances of the accident is on-going.
