TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – Canada's Yamana Gold has appointed Alex Davidson as a director of the company, it announced on Monday.

Davidson was previously executive VP for exploration and corporate development at the world's biggest gold-miner, Barrick Gold, where he had worked since 1993.

Barrick announced in mid-July he would retire at the end of August.

Yamana's board of directors now comprises Peter Marrone (as chairperson), Patrick Mars, John Begeman, Davidson, Richard Graff, Robert Horn, Nigel Lees, Juvenal Mesquita, Carl Renzoni, Antenor Silva and Dino Titaro.

Yamana also announced it had appointed COO Ludovico Costa as president, on top of his current position, and CFO Charles Main has also been given an additional title, of executive vice-president, finance.

Yamana has mines in Brazil, Chile and Argentina and agreed in June this year to sell three noncore operating mines - San Andres, in Honduras, and the Sao Francisco and Sao Vicente mines in Brazil, to Canadian junior Aura Minerals.

The San Andres sale closed last week and Yamana also reported on Monday that the Sao Vicente operation has achieved commercial production.
