JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – South African gold producer Gold Fields reported that operations at its Kloof mine, near Carletonville, were likely to restart in the area affected by an earlier fatality, later on Wednesday.
It was expected that an inspectorate of the Department of Mineral Resources would complete its investigation today.
The gold-miner reported that a worker at the Kloof mine had died in a fall-of-ground incident, during the night shift on Monday, and work in the affected section of the mine was halted as inspectors conducted an investigation.
Gold Fields spokesperson Julian Gwillim told Mining Weekly Online that production at the Kloof operations had not been affected by the temporary halt in operations at the affected area.
