JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – An employee was killed in a fall-of-ground incident at AngloGold Ashanti’s Mponeng mine on Wednesday.

A further two employees were injured and admitted to hospital.

AngloGold notified the Department of Mineral Resources, which has stopped development activities at the mine. Other operations at the mine continued.

“AngloGold Ashanti would like to express its sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased, and its sympathy to those of the injured,” the company stated.
