PERTH (miningweekly.com) – The development of the Nova nickel mine, in Western Australia, is trending ahead of schedule, ASX-listed Sirius Resources reported on Friday.

Sirius officially started mining at Nova in January this year, after receiving the final statutory approvals.

The company this week revealed that mining of the boxcut, from which the underground decline would start, was progressing ahead of schedule, as was the expansion of the construction camp.

The roads and infrastructure corridors being established were running on schedule and the construction of permanent accommodation villages had now started.

The Nova nickel mine was expected to deliver about 26 000 t/y of nickel, 11 500 t/y of copper and 850 t/y of cobalt over a ten-year mine life.

Initial mining was expected to take some three months to complete, and would be followed by the mining of the underground decline.
