JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Platinum-group metals (PGMs) miner Northam has resumed underground operations at its Zondereinde mine, in South Africa’s North West province, but said it lost about 7 000 oz of PGMs production in a safety stoppage.

On July 20, a fall-of-ground incident claimed the lives of two employees at the Zondereinde mine, prompting the company to suspend drilling and blasting operations.

Underground operations had resumed on Thursday night.

Thursday also saw 5 000 workers at the mine down tools for the day to protest the safety measures at the mine.
