JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – North River Resources has been granted environmental clearance by the Namibia Ministry of Environment and Tourism for the environmental assessment and management plan for the proposed recommissioning of its Namib lead/zinc mine.

This came after the company recently engaged consulting firms CSA Global and Bara Consulting to elevate its mine development plan (MDP), released on June 30, to a full feasibility study.

The process would involve a new resource estimate by CSA and verification and mine design work by Bara, which would update the MDP to provide reserves and a feasibility study.

The company had also commissioned a magnetic separation study and lock-cycle testing from a diversified sample of recently drilled core to optimise the metallurgy of the project.

“Environmental clearance is a major milestone and is a prerequisite for the granting of a mining licence for Namib. Detailed implementation planning and site preparation [are] also under way at Namib.

“Site offices are being installed and heavy equipment procurement is being evaluated. We are pleased with the project progress,” commented MD Martin French.
