JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Three nonexecutive directors have voluntarily resigned from the Gold Fields board following a decision to reduce the number of board members from 12 to 9, in light of the current low gold price and the high-cost operating environment.

Delfin Lazaro, Roberto Dañino and Rupert Pennant-Rea agreed to step down from the board with immediate effect.

“We greatly appreciate that each of our departing nonexecutive directors has sought to bring their experience and expertise to a range of matters over the time they have been with the company,” Gold Fields said in a statement on Wednesday.

The new board composition was expected to “more appropriately” reflect the needs of the company, it added.
