NO MAIL, NO COAL, NO MORE

29th March 2013

Gauteng postal workers were on an illegal wildcat strike for more than a month. Coal miners have been on illegal wildcat strike for three weeks. Question marks still hover over platinum miners and all South Africans are enduring the pain. The country is not exporting as it should, but continuing to import as usual, which is hurting the rand. Investors who once found South African interest rates attractive are not finding the recovering US a better bet. Accounts are not being paid on time because they are not arriving in the post. Eskom is being denied the sort of coal stockpiles that provide energy security and strike-related vandalism has the police shooting rubber bullets once more. Pity.
