New Johannesburg branch offers Silkuni access to larger market
Bearings and engineering component importer and distributor Silkuni Importers & Distributors has expanded its business from Cape Town, in the Western Cape, to Johannesburg, in Gauteng, and is considering opening branches elsewhere in the country to meet the growing demands of its customers.
The recently opened 500 m2 branch in New Centre, Johannesburg, offers Silkuni, which is the sole distributor of ISB bearings and components in South Africa, access to a larger market. The new branch also brings Silkuni’s product closer to the mining industry, while reducing time and costs by allowing direct shipments from the ISB warehouse, says owner Silvum Kuni.
“Centrally located for efficient distribution and fully equipped to meet the growing demands of customers from all over the continent and the world, no expense has been spared in creating a space, which boasts the best in technology and the employment of well-trained and specialist staff,” he adds.
The expanded footprint also makes it easier for Silkuni to attend local trade shows and exhibitions, such as Electra Mining Africa. The company attended in 2014 and will return to this year’s show.
Plans are in place to open a branch in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, and the company is considering setting up smaller satellite operations throughout South Africa and potentially the rest of the continent.
Kuni believes that the mining industry continues to offer “immense potential”. “Resources are becoming deeper, more remote and more geologically complex to source and there are also volatile issues surrounding workforce compliance in the various industries, yet there is still enormous opportunity and the future looks extremely encouraging.”
The company’s head office and warehouse are located in Parow, Cape Town.
