JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – South African mining contractor Murray & Roberts Cementation on Thursday confirmed that the Council for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration had issued the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) a certificate of non-resolution , after wage negotiations collapsed.

The union’s members would embark on strike action on Monday, affecting companies where Murray & Roberts Cementation were involved in projects, such as Gold Fields, Aquarius Platinum and Impala Platinum, the NUM stated.

The union is demanding a minimum entry salary of R3 500 a month and a 13% wage increment, while Murray and Roberts Cementation was offering an 11% increase in wages.

Murray and Roberts Cementation told Mining Weekly Online that it would continue with current wage negotiations in an effort to avoid the industrial action.
