JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Minera IRL representatives were expected to meet with community leaders of Atcas on Monday after the company had been forced by community members to suspend all operations at the Corihuarmi gold mine, in Peru.

On September 5, at about 17:00, a group of about 100 Atcas community members forced their way on to the mine site, about 160 km south-east of Lima, and occupied key installations.

The TSX- and Aim-listed company advised on Monday that it had had limited discussions with the president of the community Henry Rosales; however, Minera remained committed to addressing the community's concerns and to fulfilling its commitments.

The precious metals mining and exploration company believed that an agreement could be reached that would alleviate the concerns of the Atcas community.

The resolution and timing of the work stoppage remained uncertain. Minera would provide additional details as they became available.
