JSE-listed platinum group metals miner Northam Platinum has appointed Mcebisi Jonas and Jean Nel as independent nonexecutive directors, effective November 6.

Jonas served as Deputy Finance Minister from 2014 to 2017 and was a member of the National Assembly until April 2017.

He is also an independent nonexecutive director of MTN; one of four independent Presidential investment envoys appointed by President Cyril Ramaphosa to attract investors to South Africa; and a nonexecutive director of the Public Investment Corporation.

Nel is also a nonexecutive director of Mimosa Holdings and Mimosa Investments. He served as Aquarius Platinum CEO from 2012 to 2016.

Northam chairperson Brian Mosehla welcomed Jonas and Nel to the board, stating that they bring extensive additional experience and expertise to the company, which will further strengthen the board’s diversity and independence.
