Company Announcement - To ensure that its existing customer base in the area is provided with prompt and excellent service, MBE Minerals SA has officially launched its new Service Centre at 23 Ian Fleming Street in the Kathu Industrial Area of the Northern Cape. Under the management of Rudi van Deventer, the operation comprises a 600 m2 facility that incorporates offices, a warehouse and a dedicated workshop for assembly, repair and inspection of various components.

MBE Minerals SA has a large installed base of equipment at several mines in the area, notes Heinz Mittermaier, engineering manager. “It therefore makes sense to support our customers from a local facility. The new Service Centre allows us to provide technical assistance and proactive maintenance, reinforcing our commitment to supporting the equipment we supply through its complete lifecycle.” “We have a substantial stockholding of spare parts, in addition to the capability of being able to offer on- and off-site service,” van Deventer says. The Service Centre is also expected to generate local employment and promote community development in the area. Van Deventer explains that the spare parts stockholding at the new Service Centre in Kathu is based on the operational profiles of its main mining clients in the area. “This ensures a lean inventory level geared to each client’s specific needs. From an OEM perspective, we will ensure that the correct parts are installed according to specification, and that the equipment operates within its design limits.”

MBE Minerals SA is a leading supplier of iron ore and coal beneficiation technology, offering basic and detailed engineering, components for complete plants and systems including modernisation and capacity increase measures, as well as automation and process control equipment. The company’s scope of services includes feasibility studies, raw material testing, financing concepts, erection and commissioning, personnel training and pre- and after sales services and support.

An extensive product offering ensures that customer-specific requirements are met. All product designs focus on a number of non-negotiable elements, including quality, robustness, reliability and ease of maintenance. Pneuflot® flotation technology is rapidly gaining in popularity and has been installed at 82 global coal installations as well as magnetite and haematite (itabirite) flotation applications in South Africa. Slurry feed rates of 10 to 1 400 m3/h can be achieved in a single cell, depending on cell diameter. Pneuflot technology provides more attractive operating cost benefits than those associated with column or mechanical-agitator flotation. It also produces higher yields and metallurgical recoveries, especially when used on ultra-fine feed material. MBE Minerals SA also manufactures a variety of vibrating screens, available up to 3.6 m in width and 6.75 m in length in single or double deck configuration and in either circular or linear motion. The company’s screens have been operating in the African mining industry for the past 40 years, mainly in the coal, diamond and iron ore sectors and are suited to sizing, scalping, dewatering and media recovery applications.

The side plate mounted drive make these screens lighter than those using vibrator motors, but where required, MBE Minerals SA also supplies screens with vibrator motors, while its resonance screens offer the benefit of low power consumption. Feed capacities of 100 tph up to 3000 tph make the screens suitable for all applications where controllable discharge of bulk materials is required. The company’s TESKA separator is a slowly revolving bucket wheel joined to the separating compartment by seals. The bucket wheel for sinks has been partitioned into compartments by means of perforated plates that enable removal of the sinks, while the floats run towards a discharge paddle wheel. A very precise cut point can be achieved through higher stability, controlled by two way medium flow, of the separation bath. BATAC® jig technology exhibits excellent separation accuracy which is due to electronic control of the air pulse generator and sensing of the thickness and densities of the material layers being separated. The under-bed pulsated BATAC® jig is ideal for coarse applications from 150 mm down to fine coal in the 10 to 0.5 mm size range, with throughput rates of between 100 and 1 200 tph.

MBE Minerals’ ROMJIG® suitability as a reliable and economical solution in destoning raw coal is well documented, with extensive international testing producing impressive operational efficiency (imperfection) results of I=0.08 to 0.1. This delivers a number of benefits, including reduced wear on machinery and transporting equipment, less grain degradation, less dust and slurry and reduced consumption on flocculation and flotation agents in downstream fines recovery circuits. The robust Jones® Wet High Intensity Magnetic Separator (WHIMS) offers a high throughput capability coupled with simple maintenance and lower energy consumption. It is ideally suited to treating feebly magnetic minerals with a particle range from 20 microns up to 1.5 mm. Unit throughput capacities range from 500 kg/h up to 250 tph.

The strong field intensities and an advanced design of the magnet system in the Permos® Medium Intensity Magnetic Separator (MIMS) guarantee low operating costs and high throughput rates. Suitable for both dry and wet processes, the Permos® MIMS operates at field intensities of 5.000 Gauss on the drum surface. Equally suited to wet and dry applications in primary and secondary grinding and for pulverising materials of any hardness, the Palla Mill® produces ultra-fine grinding at maximum production with the lowest expenditure on installation, grinding media and maintenance.

“The opening of the Kathu Service Centre, yet again demonstrates our commitment to our customers and their needs. Prompt and appropriate service, together with guaranteed product quality and reliability, form the cornerstones of MBE Minerals SA’s business philosophy,” Mittermaier concludes.
