TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – TSX-listed New Dawn Mining produced 916 oz of gold during May at its Turk mine, in Zimbabwe, an increase of 10,1% compared with output figures for April.

It had originally estimated production for May at between 750 oz and 805 oz, New Dawn said on Thursday.

The firm recorded gold sales for the month of $780 000.

The company also reported that it has hired another 17 miners at the Turk operation, bringing the total work force to 716.

“New Dawn is continuing to hire additional experienced and skilled miners in order to further increase gold production and output at Turk mine,” the firm said in a statement.

The Turk mine resumed operations in February this year, after being on care-and-maintenance for four months.

The company made the decision to restart the mine after the Zimbabwean government introduced monetary policy changes that permit miners to market their gold directly and to keep the proceeds in foreign exchange.
